The ruins of Mathelo Nagar, Methelo or Mathila (Mathela is called because it is on high ground) stands 14 meter high from its surrounding ground level with remains of fortification wall at some places in district Ghotki.
The site is famous as a palace of Hindu girl named “Moomal, the history of the site is mentioned in already published reports on Sindh. In the folk stories of Sindh the name of Moomal Rani, daughter of Raja Nind is very famous. Raja Nind who belong to Gujar Rajput tribe rules over upper Sindh with its capital at Mirpur Mathelo during 15th century A.D. as per published records Raja Nind had nine daughters viz Soomal, Moomal, Sahjan, Sodi, Maram, Mardan, Kood, Kawandhi and Markhi, while few researchers have the opinion that there were only two daughters namely Moomal and Soomal. Among all daughters Moomal was famous for her ability and beauty. Moomal rules over the country after the death of her father and she built beautiful palace near the town. It is the same monument which is mentioned in literature in which the deposit of treasure the beauty and grandeur of palace was highly applauded and admired. The surface collection from the site reveals the importance of these settlement which consisting copper coins, T.C Pots, T.C figurines, Iron fragments and other miscellaneous artifacts and planned structural remains.
The structural remains of a fort, presently are in poor state because of the encroachment by locals who have occupied major part of the site on one hand while structural remains have been damaged in search of treasure and burnt bricks for their houses. The South Western side fortification wall contains four watch towers and buttresses / ram parts in between, all are exposed to the agents of destruction and at some places exposed interior of the wall of fort were seen to be concentrated burnt bricks, mud bricks and compact earth. The presence of structural remains and deposition of cultural material indicates that the site was continuously occupied until the mound reached its maximum height from surrounding ground level.
