“Monuments Conservation & Management Training Program”
Makli Hills Monuments, Thatta
The Directorate of Antiquities & Archaeology- Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Archives Department- Government of Sindh with the assistance of World Heritage Center, UNESCO initiated a conservation and management training program at the world heritage site of Makli from Nov 01 to Dec 10, 2021. The aim is to mobilize the national and international expertise in the field of conservation and management to address critical issues of conservation and provide professional treatment to the standing monuments. It is also one way to promote cultural understanding and research in the field of conservation. This Training Program will focus on the capacity building of individuals belong to the Provincial Government bodies nationwide. The trainees will also engage with the local community so they can understand the need for community involvement in heritage/conservation projects. The project is much needed not only to protect the historical structures that suffered the greatest damage or were affected by the excessive rains but also to train Government’s staff with the best knowledge and skills so that they can perform their duties in a better way. This project is an opportunity to bring government bodies & Experts together for the safeguarding of heritage.
